Just prior to the events of the game, General Chang defeats a would-be usurper named Kalnor, head of the powerful House of G'Iogh, and halts his attempted coup d'état against the Klingon government.
There are no significant tensions with the Gorn Star Kingdom, the Tholian Assembly or the Sha'kurian Duchies (a new race created specifically for this game) at this time. The Klingons have a limited non-aggression and technology exchange treaty with the Romulan Star Empire, although neither side has high regard for the other. Praxis, the sole moon of the Klingon homeworld Qo'noS, is only a secondary energy production facility at this time. The Empire's energy production needs are met largely by dilithium and other important resources in the Tal'Ihnor Gates system, near Romulan space. The Klingon Empire is led by Chancellor Lorak, a noble but ailing ruler, and maintains a peace with the Federation much like the Cold War-type situation presented in Star Trek VI. Klingon Academy takes place in 2291 (Klingon year 1666 IR, Imperial Reckoning), after the events of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and prior to those of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
2.2 Ship systems, operation, and weapons. “Party Patrol”: During the 4 Year Anniversary Event, and like the previous year, the players have to solve the puzzles presented by the mini- Qs. However, they wouldn't give in before presenting you with a little puzzle. “Present Patrol”: During the 3 Year Anniversary Event, Q asked the players to convince mini-Qs scattered over the Academy grounds to attend his party. 
“The Next Generation: 25th Anniversary”: From July 19-24, 2012, players could speak with a holographic representation of young Worf in the holodeck of either Starfleet or Klingon Academy and unlock unique rewards. “Party Crashers”: During the 2 Year Anniversary Event, Q asked the players to catch mini-Qs scattered all over the Academy grounds. “Academy Event” (only during Junior Officer Appreciation Weekend): Partner with a science cadet and scan particles that appear all over the Academy to collect s which can then be exchanged for Dilithium Ore Containers. “Learning the Lore of the Empire”: Short daily mission to answer a random question on the history between 2380-2409 at a nearby computer station (see also: Lore). When used, a datachip grants an accolade, completing a volume gives an extra accolade (see also: Accolade/Lore). The datachips are part of 29 volumes, each containing up to 9 chapters. “The Lore of the Empire”: Short daily mission to acquire a datachip from a nearby library computer containing information about the history contained in the Path to 2409, the events leading up to the beginning of Star Trek Online.
